Padayatra Song

Walk the walk

They keep a close watch on these hearts of ours
Our Gour-Nitai like walkin’ more than cars
No time to fuss, fret, pout, or even balk
We don’t just talk, we walk the walk.

To Gour-Nitai it’s so easy to be true
They pick you up even when you’re feelin’ blue
So chant and dance and grow your creeper’s stalk
We don’t just talk, we walk the walk.

Throughout the dark of night and light of day
We’ll keep Them on our minds, that is the way
To taste the bliss that makes all people gawk
We don’t just talk, we walk the walk.

They have Their ways to keep us on Their side
For Gour-Nitai our love we just can’t hide
And Prabhupada he’ll watch us like a hawk
He’s walks his talk, he walks the walk.

ALL SHOUT: “ARE YOU READY TO WALK THE WALK?!”

The song is a parody of a famous country rock song called “Walk the Line,” originally written and sung in the 1950s by a famous American singer named Johnny Cash. Cash was singing about his woman. Suresvara Prabhu, an American disciple of Srila Prabhupada, adapted the lyrics so we could sing it for Gour-Nitai and their Padayatra.

If you want to know the tune he sang onstage with other devotees during the last Gaura Purnima festival in Mayapur, just Google “walk the line johnny cash,” click on the YouTube icon, and listen to him sing.

The Padayatra song

The song was written by Lilavati Dasi in 1991 at the time of the padayatra in England.
She’s the one singing it also.

Pack your bags, pack your beads
Bring your wellies too
What do you mean, you haven’t heard
It’s the latest news
We’re going on Padayatra
To spread the holy name
What! You can’t make it
It’s  really quite  a shame.

Chorus: Haribol! Haribol!

Walking down the country lanes
The sun is beating down
Dancing in the kirtan
Transcendental sounds
We  haven’t seen a sign post yet
Although we’ve walked all day
Oh Krsna, we’re  not surprised
It’s back the other way.

Chorus: Haribol! Haribol!

We’re going on Padayatra
Fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s dream
In every town and village
You’ll hear the holy name
From Lord Caitanya’s Padayatra team.

Chorus: Haribol! Haribol!

Prabhupada came with us
Travelling on the cart
Everyone is chanting
Singing from the heart
The sun goes down
And evening falls
But  where’s Parasurama?
Shh…you might wake him
He’s underneath the cart.

Chorus: Haribol! Haribol!

Some say when you’re on the road
Life is quite austere
But oh we’re eating sweet rice
It’s coming out our ears
Chanting by the campfire in perfect harmony
Lord Caitanya’s with us
It’s bliss, serenity.

Chorus: Haribol! Haribol!

We’re going on Padayatra   (bis)
Fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s dream
In every town and village
You’ll hear the holy name
From Lord Caitanya’s Padayatra team.
